Sumner County Republican Women
2013 is off to a busy start.
The NFRW celebrates their 75th Diamond Anniversary in 2013.
When Marion Martin called a meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago in 1938, three states had not even ratified the 19th amendment allowing women to vote, and Republicans were only represented by 89 Republicans in the House of Representatives, 16 Republicans in the Senate, and 6 Republican Governors in the age of the New Deal. Today, Republicans do not hold the presidency or a majority in the Senate, but there are 30 Republican Governors and a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Much has changed since NFRW formed, and we still have far to go.

Clair Crouch, President of the TFRW Shares this Good Advice from Ronald Reagan and Phyllis Schlafly.
In Phyllis Schlafly's December newsletter from Eagle Forum, she printed some advice from Ronald Reagan's speech at the 1975 Conservative Political Action Conference. I want to restate it here for you now. I found the speech encouraging.
[Ronald Reagan] "We have been through a disastrous election. It is easy for us to be discouraged, as pundits hail that election as a repudiation of our philosophy and even as a mandate of some kind or other. But the significance of the election was not registered by those who voted, but by those who stayed home...
It is possible we have been persuasive to a greater degree than we had ever realized. Few, if any Democratic Party candidates in the last election ran as liberals...Bureaucracy was assailed and fiscal responsibility hailed...Make no mistake, the leadership of the Democratic Party is still out of step with the majority of Americans...

I don't know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, "We must broaden the base of our Party" - when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents...
Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?
Let us show that we stand for fiscal integrity and sound money and above all for an end to deficit spending, with ultimate retirement of the national debt. Let us also include a permanent limit on the percentage of people's earnings government can take without their consent...Let us explore ways to ward off Socialism...
A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers...
A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers...
It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way."
I believe, as does Mrs. Schlafly, that this advice is still valid today. We must hold true to our principles and values. We must stand on what we say we believe. We must ditch political correctness. We must fight Socialism. We must educate our youth in the right way and we must select candidates to back and be elected that stand with us. It is time to take our country back!
Reagan Day Dinner Silent Auction
In our last meeting I asked that each one of our members collect a minimum of one auction donation item. I have attached a letter you can print to hand to a business or individual as they agree to donate so they have a record of what organization they contributed to. I have also attached a donation record form for you to fill out as you obtain an item so that we can use the information after the auction to send out thank you notes. Don't forget to get an idea from them on the value of the item. We use that information to set our starting bids.

Also attached is the donation list from last year so that you can see what items were donated last year and by who. This may help you when you are looking for items. Any items collected may be brought to our meeting or given to me or Susanna Hayward.
If you would like to help out at the auction either with planning, bid sheets, set-up, clean-up or selling and collecting the money for the auction items, please let me know. It is lots of fun but you will need to wear comfortable shoes.
I encourage you to attend the dinner. It is always a great event. More details on the dinner will be provided as I get them.
Caucus and Convention
As promised, attached is a list of caucus and convention locations and times with the precincts listed. Remember, if you want to vote at the convention, you need to go to the caucus for your voting precinct for an opportunity to be elected as a delegate. Don't forget, Linda Pitt is running for Chairman of the Party. Won't it be great to have a Republican woman leading our party? Become a delegate and help her achieve this goal.

February Meeting, Saturday, Feb. 16th at 9am, at Campione's in Gallatin
Two of our newly elected officials, William Lamberth and Ferrell Haile, have agreed to update us on the first legislation being considered on the hill. We hope to hear from our women officials in future meetings. This is our way to keep informed, hear from our officials what they think about the pending bills and ask questions to clarify our understanding and express our own ideas as their constituents.
